Kay Builders Gives Back to Support Animals in Need

As the Lehigh Valley’s 3rd generation, family-owned homebuilder, we feel an obligation to give back to the community that has been our home since 1961. Throughout the year, we give our time, talents and financial resources to help various local causes all around the Lehigh Valley.
On May 31, 2026, Kay Builders participated in the Fast & Furriest 5K Run/Walk Event to support the Sanctuary at Haafsville, a local non-profit, no-kill animal rescue in Breinigsville, Pennsylvania.
Kay Builders Supports the Sanctuary at Haafsville
The Sanctuary at Haafsville works to bring people and animals together. Over the past 15 years, the Sanctuary at Haafsville has saved over 15,000 animals and placed them in loving homes. The shelter has a strict No-Kill animal welfare policy and does not euthanize animals to create space.
The sanctuary partners with other overcrowded shelters, rescues dogs and cats from natural disasters, accepts dogs and cats from owners who need to relinquish them, and works to place all these animals into caring “furever” homes. These animals “rescue” the people who adopt them too, because the animals forever enrich the lives of the families they join.
The Fast & Furriest 5K Run/Walk is an important fundraising event that provides funding to allow the sanctuary to help as many animals as possible. Kay Builders was a “Border Collie” level sponsor of the event, which was held May 31, 2026 at the beautiful Lehigh Parkway in Allentown.
Kay Builders has a long history of helping local animals in need. In addition to the Sanctuary at Haafsville, we have also previously supported the Lehigh Valley Humane Society and the Lehigh Valley Zoo.
A Beautiful Day to Help Animals in Need
The race day was beautiful and sunny in the Lehigh Parkway, perfect weather for the run/walk. Over 550 participants registered for the event, including 18 people from the Kay Builders team. Kay Builders and their affiliates Traditional Mortgage and Traditional Abstract participated along with their family and friends.
In addition to runners, walkers, and family and friends cheering them on, adoptable dogs also attended the event to help them get more exposure and hopefully find their forever homes.
The experience had a profound effect on the Kay Builders team members who participated. Betsy Giuffrida, Settlement Coordinator at Kay Builders said, “Rescue pets have always had a place in my family and heart. Any person or organization who makes the life of an animal-in-need better, is a more-than-worthy cause. The Sanctuary is a wonderful organization and I am proud to support them in any way possible. It was a beautiful day and the event was well-organized, so it was a win for everyone!”
Cindy Perosa, a Loan Processor with Traditional Mortgage (a Kay Builders affiliate) earned a medal in the 5K Run for her age group. She said, “I thought it was a great event. It’s super awesome that Kay Builders supports this organization!”
Like all worthy causes that Kay Builders supports, giving back is rewarding for all those who participate. Nicole Serino, Kay Builders Executive Director of Marketing, put it this way: “It was inspiring to see everyone come together to support an organization that does so much for animals in need. The event itself was well-run and had such a positive, welcoming energy. It felt great to be part of something that not only encouraged health and teamwork but also gave back to a cause that truly makes a difference. Supporting the Sanctuary at Haafsville is especially rewarding knowing the impact it has on giving animals a safe place and a second chance.”
