A Guide to the Best Commuter Towns in Pennsylvania Between Philadelphia and New York

Beautiful Philadelphia skyline next to a convenient map of Easton PA, showing the close proximity of key towns to New Jersey , Philadelphia, and New York City.

If you travel to New York City and Philadelphia for work, there are many commuter towns between these popular cities. At Kay Builders we have many home buyers who travel to these locations for both business and pleasure. While New Jersey may be a convenient option to live, higher taxes often drive many people to Pennsylvania. So here is our guide to the best commuter towns in Pennsylvania between Philadelphia and New York.

Convenient map of Easton Pennsylvania shows the locations of Easton, Harleysville, and other popular commuter towns close to Philadelphia and New York City.

Easton, Pennsylvania

The Lehigh Valley is a sweet spot between Philadelphia and New York City. You can travel to both cities by car in a little over an hour and bus service is available. You can easily travel from Allentown, Bethlehem, and Easton and surrounding towns like Emmaus, Macungie, and Forks Township by Interstate 78 (to New York) and the Pennsylvania Turnpike (to Philadelphia). Easton is particularly attractive for travel to New York and New Jersey since it sits on the Delaware River just over the border from Phillipsburg, NJ.

Interested in moving near Easton? Kay Builders is currently building The Fields at Lafayette Way Active Adult Community in Forks Township, Pa. These homes offer the beauty and serenity of country living with all the convenience of living near Easton, a vibrant and historically significant small city.

Beautiful Easton Pennsylvania is located on the PA / NJ border, and is a convenient place to find your new home.

Lansdale / Harleysville / Skippack, Pennsylvania

There are many towns in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania that fit the bill as commuter towns, especially for travel to Philadelphia. But the area around Lansdale, Harleysville, and Skippack deserve special mention. These towns are very close to both the PA Turnpike interchange at Lansdale and are also convenient to the Lansdale SEPTA Regional Rail station. You can park at this station and take the train into Philadelphia, or you can hop on the turnpike and drive to center city Philadelphia in under an hour.

Looking for a home near Lansdale? Kay Builders is currently selling the final homes at The Fields at Jacobs Way in Harleysville. These spacious, luxury townhomes are set on gentle hills in a quiet retreat but are super convenient for commuting. These homes are move-in ready for a quick delivery.

Sales Manager Peggy Gardner has sold a number of homes to commuters who used to live closer to Philadelphia. “Our buyers at Jacobs Way are amazed when they see the beautiful tree-lined backdrop and so much open green space.” Gardner says, “They’re used to living in the city. Here they can relax in a peaceful setting surrounded by nature, but they can still jump on the turnpike and be in Philadelphia quickly.”

Only a few homes still remain in this community. LEARN MORE.

The Fields at Jacobs Way located in Harleysville, PA is a conveniently located community within easy commuting distance to Philadelphia.

Bucks County, Pennsylvania

Bucks County has several quaint towns that sit between Philadelphia and New York City. Yardley is probably the most convenient to both cities because it is close to both the Trenton/Hamilton rail corridor and to Interstate 95. In addition to New York and Philly, this town is popular among people who work in Princeton, NJ.

Newtown is a popular town with an historic downtown and access to plenty of amenities. The commute to Philadelphia is manageable, but the drive to New York City is a bit longer. Most people commute to New Jersey and hop on a train from there.

If you’re looking for quality of life in Bucks County, consider Doylestown. The quaint, walkable downtown has lots of popular bars, restaurants and museums. The SEPTA regional rail has a station here for commuting into Philadelphia, or you can hop on route 611 and head south. Commuting to New York City by car is a bit longer, but you can easily pick up a train in New Jersey.
