Fun Summer Activities in the Lehigh Valley
Fun Summer Activities in the Lehigh Valley
June 29, 2026
At Kay Builders, we’re proud to be the Lehigh Valley’s local builder. We’ve been building beautiful, vibrant homes in the Lehigh Valley since 1961.
When you visit one of our communities, you’ll see what makes a Kay Builders home so special: quality from top to bottom, lots of included features, and the ability to build the CUSTOM-i-ZABLE home of your dreams exactly the way you want it.
One of the reasons why the Lehigh Valley is one of the most desirable real estate areas in the country is because there are so many fun things to do. Here’s our guide to fun summer activities you can do in the Lehigh Valley after visiting one of our communities, such as The Fields at Lafayette Way (in Forks Township near Easton, Pa) and The Fields at Twin Run (Upper Milford Township near Emmaus and Macungie, Pa).
In the Lehigh Valley, summer is a great time to get outside and seek out active adventures. The weather is warm, the natural scenery is beautiful, and there’s plenty to see and do, including:
HangDog Outdoor Adventures (Easton)
HangDog Outdoor Adventure offers a one-of-a-kind outdoor climbing and zipline experience and features the largest high ropes adventure course on the East Coast!
But don’t be intimidated… The size of the course means there’s plenty of room (and climbing opportunities) for beginners and seasoned climbers of any age. That’s probably why this unique destination has become one of the Lehigh Valley’s most exciting outdoor attractions.
At HangDog, you’ll find multiple levels of climbing challenges, zip lines, aerial obstacles, giant swings, and exciting free-fall experiences. The four-story course provides plenty of opportunities to test your balance, strength, and courage while enjoying breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding countryside.
When the climbing day is over, the fun is just beginning! HangDog also features an on-site brewery and beer garden where you can relax, enjoy craft beverages, grab a bite to eat, and often catch live music. In fact, the brewery has become so popular that you might decide to skip the ropes course and just enjoy the food and drinks!
Explore Trexler Nature Preserve and Lehigh Valley Zoo (Schnecksville)
Just a short drive from Macungie, the Trexler Nature Preserve is a beautiful playground for outdoor enthusiasts. You’ll find miles of trails winding through rolling hills, grasslands, and forests, with beautiful scenery and magnificent vistas. You’re likely to spot bison, elk, deer, and a variety of birds while hiking.
Located within the preserve, the Lehigh Valley Zoo offers a family-friendly summer destination featuring animal exhibits, educational programs, and seasonal events. They feature some unusual animals including exotic giraffes, excitable penguins, and adorable otters.
The Karl Stirner Arts Trail (near Easton)
If you’d prefer a more relaxed outdoor adventure, check out the Karl Stirner Arts Trail. This scenic multi-use trail combines nature and public art in a way few destinations can match. Stretching through beautiful green space, the trail features walking and biking paths alongside large-scale sculptures, artistic installations, and picturesque creek views.
The Arts Trail is perfect for a leisurely walk or relaxing bike ride. Along the way, you'll discover unique works of art integrated into the landscape, creating an experience that feels equal parts outdoor recreation and cultural exploration. Don’t forget a camera - you’ll find countless photo opportunities along the way!
Macungie's Parks and Open Spaces
The Macungie area is home to numerous parks, walking trails, and recreation areas that provide easy access to outdoor fun.
The Bob Rodale Cycling and Fitness Park, about 4 miles away in Breinigsville, features paved, multi-use looping trails designed for cycling, running, and rollerblading, alongside athletic fields and open green spaces.
Camp Olympic Park in Lower Macungie has easy hiking with lots of shade, fishing in the Little Lehigh Creek, and a popular disc golf course with varied terrain, mature trees, and well-maintained fairways.
Lock Ridge Park in Alburtis is famous for its scenic stone ruins of an old iron ore furnace. It is a fantastic, picturesque spot for a quiet walk, photography, or a creekside picnic.
Frost Hollow Overlook (Just outside Easton)
While you’re exploring the Lehigh Valley, plan a stop at the Frost Hollow Overlook, one of the area's most scenic viewpoints. This overlook provides stunning views of rolling hills, forests, and the Delaware Water Gap region.
It's an ideal destination if you want to take pictures, do some hiking, or just enjoy a peaceful moment surrounded by nature. This dramatic landscape really showcases the natural beauty of the Lehigh Valley (a big part of the reason why so many people want to live here!).
The D&L Trail
The D&L Trail is a 165-mile hiking, walking, and biking trail that goes from Wilkes-Barre to Bristol, Pa (just north of Philadelphia). About 17 miles of the trail is located in the Lehigh Valley as it passes through Easton, Bethlehem and Allentown.
Because of the length and (mostly) flat terrain that follows historic canal routes and river corridors, the trail is popular among cyclists of all skill levels. When riding or walking on the trail, you’ll encounter river views, historic landmarks, and plenty of opportunities to stop for food and drinks.
