Giving Back - A Recap of the ‘Clear the Shelter’ Event

At Kay Builders, our exemplary reputation goes far beyond building remarkable homes in carefully-crafted communities throughout the Lehigh Valley and Bucks County. Above all, we care about giving back, building value and raising awareness about important causes in the areas where we build—which is exactly why we decided to sponsor and participate in the recent ‘Clear the Shelter’ event with The Lehigh Valley Humane Society.

After promoting this event for the whole month of January and sharing information about the adoptable animals, Kay Builders sponsored all adoptions fees for the weekend of January 28th and 29th at this incredible non-profit shelter. Several Kay employees also volunteered throughout the entire weekend—and we couldn’t be more proud and honored to have been a part of something so impactful.

About The Lehigh Valley Humane Society

For over 100 years, The Lehigh Valley Humane Society has served as a local non-profit organization dedicated to the welfare of animals. As a compassionate 24/7 organization that cares for over 200 animals a day, they provide a safe and loving environment for dogs, cats and other small animals that are in need of a forever home. On top of their wonderful adoption services, The Humane Society offers a wide range of programs and services designed to promote the welfare of animals—such as low-cost spay and neuter programs, vet services, pet therapy, humane education, lost pet services, cruelty investigations and community outreach. 

From taking in stray animals to providing care for pets and so much more—this fantastic organization works tirelessly to ensure that as many animals are as safe, healthy and happy as possible. As the only animal shelter that provides financial assistance to responsible pet owners in the Lehigh Valley through their Community Vet Clinic, they have an undying commitment to helping those in need and placing the health and well-being of pets and their families above all else—and this philosophy is why we were beyond thrilled to support their mission and sponsor this event. 

Looking back on the event

With the challenges, expenses and obstacles that The Lehigh Valley Humane Society faces daily, they’re still able to overcome any barriers and provide an amazing experience for every single person and animal that comes through their doors—which is exactly what enticed us to sponsor and volunteer at the ‘Clear the Shelter’ event. 

“Growing up in the Lehigh Valley and being a third-generation homebuilder in this area—it’s so important to give back, and I’ve always loved animals, so this was the perfect opportunity for us to step in and uplift the people around us,” said our Owner and President, Rick Koze.

Not only was it incredibly rewarding to sponsor the adoption fees for the weekend and send so many animals off to happy, loving homes—but it was just as remarkable to volunteer and help out around the shelter. Our employees rolled up their sleeves and got to work throughout the weekend, helping with tasks like feeding and caring for cats, socializing with small animals, walking and playing with dogs, and even doing laundry and washing dishes. The experience was immensely fulfilling and was a true testament to the Kay Builders mission—to help foster the growth, development and betterment of those around us in the Lehigh Valley area. 

As another way to show our support, Kay Builders also created goodie bags for each adopted animal to take home. These bags were filled with something for both the pets and their humans, including Kay Builders swag, cat toys, locally baked dog treats from Duke's Delites and pet food donated by Best Breed Pet Foods. This was a small but meaningful way for us to give back to the animals and the community—and we were so excited to see so many animals find their forever homes during this event. It’s safe to speak for our entire team when we say we had an absolute blast, and we would undoubtedly volunteer again in a heartbeat. Above all else, being a part of this special event was such a gratifying, heartwarming experience, and we feel so fortunate to have been able to support and strengthen this spectacular organization.
