Our Ultimate Guide to Getting Your Home Ready for the Warmer Seasons

Our Ultimate Guide to Getting Your Home Ready for the Warmer Seasons

A family planting some flowers for spring.

April 25, 2022

Despite the rising temperatures, blooming flowers and much-needed sunshine—-it’s safe to say that many of us are still recovering from the effects of the nasty winter blues. The truth is, the long winter months can put a strain on you and your home, and with the springtime here—making changes to your home, big or small, can contribute greatly to the comfort and relaxation of you and your family. From clearing out clutter to preparing your landscape and everything in between, giving your home a thorough reset and refresh doesn’t just make it look better, but it can make you feel better.

At Kay Builders, we know that taking on your warm weather home preparations can seem a bit daunting—which is why we’ve put together a few tips and tricks to help you tackle this year's spring and summer tasks with ease.

It’s not too late for a good spring cleaning

One of the best ways to give your home a new look and feel is to give it a traditional spring cleaning. It’s never too late to start your cleaning adventures to prepare for the warmer weather, and a great starting point is to declutter the spaces in your home. First, separate your cluttered belongings into categories of things to keep, donate or sell. Find new places or add methods of storage for your keep items, and have a quick garage sale or post online for your items with value—and if you have any left, take them to local donation centers or thrift stores. Once clutter is cleared away and overcrowded spaces in your home are taken care of, you’ll be ready to optimize cleaning in your home to get ready for the summer months.

To thoroughly clean your home and give it an efficient refresh, it’s a good idea to make a list of cleaning tasks for each room, from cleaning out the pantry and fridge to dusting off surfaces in the bedrooms. To increase productivity, get the family involved by dividing each room amongst family members to get the process done in a quick and effective manner. Changing the sheets, wiping down windows, sweeping under furniture, changing air filters and scrubbing the grout can make a huge difference in the way your home looks and the way you feel—and it’s the perfect way to provide a clean slate for your home during the new seasons.

Give your landscape some TLC

Outdoor maintenance and landscape work are essential for bringing your yard back to its fuller and lusher self for the warmer months. It’s best to start with the basics—cleaning out the gutters, mowing your lawn and inspecting your yard for any winter weather damage. Trim your trees and hedges, and collect any leaves, twigs and other debris that has accumulated over the winter, and rake your lawn to clear your landscaping of thatch—dried out, dead grass and organic debris. After your yard is spruced up and cleared out, it’s a good idea to add fertilizer to ensure maximum health for your grass during the warmer months. Add mulch around your trees, and for a pop of color, plant a few flowers around your Kay home to add even more to the scenic value and accentuate the beautiful seasons.

Bring the outdoors in

The best part about spring and summer cleaning is the refreshing and airy feeling of your home after you’re finished. Achieve the ultimate cleaning bliss by wiping, clearing and dusting off all the surfaces in your home with your favorite cleaning products, as well as incorporating spring and summer scents into your home through air fresheners or candles. After sweeping and mopping, give your rooms and walls a new look by including spring- or summer-themed decor and adding in some house plants to welcome the new seasons into your home. Don’t forget to open your windows and enjoy the fresh air of warmer weather for some well-earned spring and summer satisfaction—and remember, your home doesn’t have to be brand new to feel brand new.

At Kay Builders, we’re here to make your warm weather preparations easier with our dedication to serve our customers and their homes. From spring to winter, we know you’ll always love your Kay home in any of our incredible communities—and you can always count on us to be there every step of the way.
